I hadn't intended my round-ups of what's been happening to include news items from around the world, but today is different.
Yesterday afternoon in Woolwich, London, UK, a young 25 year old soldier, Lee Rigby, of 2nd Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, was viciously attacked and hacked to death in the street by two men. I have mentioned this here as he was a serving member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces, which is where the Yeoman of the Guard are recruited from after serving 22 years colour service; also the headquarters of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers is within the walls of the Tower of London, in fact it is situated right next door to the Old Hospital Block, which is where we used to live.
This young man was at the Headquarters earlier in the week where he was working. He was the father of a two year old son.
I cannot describe the emotions that I am felling at this outrageous, horrific, murder. as you know I am a very proud wife of a serving member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces in Canada, my heart goes out to his family; I wish I could pick them up, hug them and protect them. I would like his son to know that his Daddy was a brave soldier taken by cowards and hope that as he grows he will understand that not all are like those who killed his Daddy, the vast majority of the world's population have a higher value of human life.
I shall leave you with the 'Ode of Remembrance' taken from the poem 'For the Fallen' by Robert Laurance Binyon.
Keep safe, Heather.
"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them."
